When I was younger, I thought this movie ruled, and it kind of still does. If it weren’t for the really childish aspects of the film - mainly introduced when the kids are - it would be a really sick film. Instead, I want to explore its namesake: The Thunderdome.
The Thunderdome alone is a sick concept, in fact, they fucked up by having it in the name, but only utilizing it for one (awesome) sequence in the film. I want more gladiator style fights. I want Max to earn his independence from this society and come to rule it instead of Tina Turner. I want Max to run train on people like it’s the Bloodome and his parents are going through a divorce. But we don’t get that. However, I do wonder how long I would last in the Thunderdome?
The answer, I think, is not long. It’s hard to run away when you’re bungee-strapped in, although it allows for some weird getaways and hops over people. However, it limits your dodging ability while also seemingly allowing you to not get crushed to death, which is another plus. I guess it also depends on who you’d be facing, and a lot of these post-apocalyptic mutants seem on one. Maybe I could put up a fight given the day and depending what weapons I snag, but I just hope I don’t get launched into a top spike.
