The 1976 Elaine May film follows Mikey (John Cassavettes) as he tries to corral his paranoid friend Nicky (Peter Falk) as Nicky tries to hide and flee from the mob in Philly after repping them off. The film, while being wildly serious, is inherently funny at times based of the stupidity of humans and at the fact that you cannot control erratic people. At a certain point in the film, we begin to realize that Nicky is actually working with the same mob to locate Mikey to knock him off - because they can’t just have any shmo stealing from them. So, Mikey is Nicky’s only friend and he goes out of his way to get this thing done. I, personally, don’t think I’d be ever able to do that - save for some truly heinous or serious crime.
