In A Quiet Place: Day One, Samira (Lupita Nyong’o) is terminally ill on a trip with her hospice to New York when the invasion happens. After the initial attack settles down, she realizes that since her time is limited, that she is going to go back to where she always went with her dad when she was younger and get one last slice from Patsy’s in Harlem. Now, obviously being terminally ill, her outlook on life would be different than yours or mine, but if you were in a similar situation, where would you go to try and get one last slice in New York1.
Firstly, I guess it all depends where you ended up getting stuck during this invasion. Currently, I am in Brooklyn and not far from Lucali’s, which of course, is Lucali’s and undefeated. However, my favorite slice in the entire city is all the way up in Williamsburg at Rosa’s. That would be my ideal last slice. I know they wouldn’t have what I want (an upside down grandma with pep), but goddamn that shit would hit so hard. Maybe I’d make a much easier trip to Barboncino and see if any of the brick oven zas were left over.
If I were stranded in Manhattan though, I would probably go a little deeper than Patsy’s. Lucille’s up in Harlem absolutely rips every time. Prince Street is overrated as is Rubirosa, so I’d at least try and make my last trip in the city completely worth it.
Note: this is a very NYC heavy writing.
