Maybe it’s because I was graduating high school when this film came out in 20101, but I just didn’t see it. I knew about it - it was impossible to not know about Steve Carrell, the little yellow guys, and “IT’S SO FLUFFY” but I didn’t see it. It didn’t appeal to me. Low and behold, fourteen years later it has become one of the biggest and most profitable intellectual properties, allowed Illumination to almost completely replace Pixar as the premier animation studio (at least most profitable), and created many memes and events that have forced their way into society. With the fourth Despicable Me coming out, and the sixth film in the extended universe/series, I felt like I had to finally watch this. I did. It was cute. But I’m not the audience since I do not have children nor am I in their ideal range. But good for Carrell for getting his bag.
Also, earlier this year Toy Story 3 came out, which has a special place in my heart. How could any other animated movie replace that?
